The Bobsleigh and Luge Track in Sigulda is one of 18 constructions of this
type in the world. In comparison with other tracks, this one is unique,
since it is accessible for visitors and tourists for attraction rides.
Gutman’s Cave is the largest cave in the Baltics. It started forming more than 10 000 years ago when meltwater eroded the sandstone rock after the Ice Age. It is the oldest tourist attraction in Latvia. The inscriptions on the walls date back to the 17th century.
One of the oldest visible castles in Latvia built in 1214. Few buildings in Latvia are located in such a splendid landscape – castle is set on some 80 metres high strip of land between two ravines at Gauja River. There is marvellous view from its 27 metres high tower over the forested Gauja valley.
Tourists can have a 1980s-style meal here, sitting at a table covered by wax-cloth and drinking from faceted vintage glasses. The menu features entries like the ‘Kolkhoz combo’ with soup, stewed fruit drink and rye bread.
In the territory of the rehabilitation centre Līgatne, 9 m underground, there is a well-equipped facility with a total area of 2,000 sq.m, whose secrecy grading was removed only in 2003. Bunker was built for the needs of political and state authority elite of the 1980-ies for state administration in case of nuclear war. It is the biggest in the Balkans and is larger than Hitler’s bunker.
