St. Petersburg is Russia’s second-largest city. A modern, romantic, intellectual, grandiose and historic city.
The second-largest city in Russia, St Petersburg comprises more than 800 bridges as it sits on many islands and it contains a multitude of waterways. It is the fourth most populous city in Europe, and it has a massive port on the Baltic sea.
There is so much to see and more to do in this massive city. Seeing that its location is so far north that during the summer, the sun barely sets. One must go and visit the Russian Vodka Museum and see the origins of Russia’s signature alcohol drink. Each tour features a tasting and is fun. There is also the Rasputin museum, with great insight on characters from the area. There are many more exciting options and we would love to present a few options for your perusal while enjoying your stay in St Petersburg.
If you’re in Russia, you’re eating Bliny, large and thin pancakes that can be either savoury or sweet. Everyone loves a bliny. Another firm favourite meal is known as ‘Herring Under The Fur Coat,’ and it is a traditional Russian salad made up in layers, with salted herring being the main presentation. There are so many fine restaurants and even more popular restaurants and eateries that it is hard actually to point to an area or a particular restaurant. We can help you find the best locations once you have your accommodation sorted out.
As mentioned, it is a big city. There is much to do in a place the size of St Petersburg. It is one of the few places in the world though that you can take a boat ride through the city centre. There are many different routes, but they are all pretty breathtaking. The St Petersburg Metro is also a fantastic place to visit. It is one of the deepest metros in the world, but the stations are like palaces, incredibly beautiful, ancient and ornate. If you feel like this is all a bit much and you just want to be at the beach, you can travel around the city on a Stand Up Paddle board.
If you are budget-conscious to some level, then the best part of the city to visit is North of Nevsky. There are budget hostels and hotels in that part of the town. If however, you want to put your dancing shoes on, then we would recommend you find somewhere in the Nevsky Prospkt area. Generally considered the most relaxed place to stay in St Petersburg is New Holland Island. Formerly owned by the army, it now has a beautiful selection of innovative restaurants and happening bars and nightclubs.
For any of your immediate needs, we can organize any sort of transport in St Petersburg. We can arrange pick-ups, drop-offs and any specific routing you might need. If you prefer to be self-sufficient, then St Petersburg has an excellent public transport system with the Marshrutka (minibus) the most popular. If your location is in the center, then you don’t need to worry too much about public transport as most places are within walking distance.Share this tour
